Traffic tie-up on I-255 following man’s death

Traffic was backed up due to lane restrictions on I-255 westbound Saturday afternoon as Illinois State Police investigated the death of a man found underneath the Jefferson Barracks Bridge deck by his son. ISP received assistance from the Columbia Fire Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Columbia EMS. An official from the Monroe County Coroner’s office also responded.

The man was apparently flying a drone in the area under the bridge and may have suffered a heart attack. His son found him and called 911. ISP investigated the scene to rule out the possibility of foul play.
