Suspicious person alert in Columbia

Updated 4:14 p.m.

Local police were notified around 9 a.m. Friday of a suspicious white male, 29, by the name of Joshua Woody walking on I-255 toward Columbia. He was described as shirtless, possibly shoeless, wearing shorts and carrying a brown bag.

The person who notified police reported that Woody said “God owed him a woman,” and that “she is in Columbia.”

Local agencies were alerted via ISPERN (Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network) due to his prior hostility toward police.

At around 4 p.m., Columbia police said the man had been located in the wooded area off I-255 near the soccer fields and was being evaluated at the police station.

He was later transported by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis.
