Self-inflicted shooting death in Columbia

A 79-year-old Columbia man with medical issues was pronounced dead inside a residence on Ahna Court about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, the victim of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A family member discovered the man and called 911. An Illinois State Police crime scene unit assisted the Monroe County Coroner’s office and Columbia Police Department at the scene.
