R-T All-Local Football Team announced

Monroe County was a hotbed of high school football action in 2014, as both Columbia and Waterloo made the playoffs and provided plenty of excitement to late summer and fall Friday nights.

Below is this year’s Republic-Times All-Local Football Team, which includes student-athletes from Waterloo, Columbia and Dupo.

OFFENSE

Jacob Hill, Columbia. The senior quarterback for the Eagles threw 14 touchdowns and ran for 10 more, amassing 1,369 yards through the air and another 596 yards on the ground.

Rick Wiegand, Waterloo. Always reliable, this senior running back led the Mississippi Valley Conference in total yards with 1,346 (1,118 rushing, 228 receiving) and scored 16 touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

Lou Isringhaus, Columbia. Nicknamed “The Hammer,” the senior running back hammered opposing defenses in 2014. He led the Cahokia Conference in scoring (26 total touchdowns), rushing (1,281 yards) and total yards (1,564).

Andrew Gutknecht and Corey Hornbostel, Columbia. These two offensive linemen led a group that helped the Eagles gain around 2,500 yards on the ground this season.

Blake Pete, Zack Shields and Zach George, Waterloo. This trio of offensive linemen were part of a strong line that guided the ‘Dogs to nearly 2,200 yards rushing this season.

Lamont Read, Columbia. He scored four touchdowns and finished second in the Cahokia Conference with 480 yards as the top wide receiver for the Eagles.

Kodee Keys, Dupo. He was tops in the Cahokia Conference with a whopping 33.8 yards per catch average at wide receiver. Keys totaled 169 receiving yards for the Tigers.

Brendan Wilhelm, Columbia. At tight end, Wilhelm came through with some big catches for the Eagles. He finished with 173 yards receiving.

DEFENSE

Easton Huffhines, Columbia. He was a sack machine for the Eagles, totaling six sacks on the season. He also registered 37 tackles and 30 assists.

Sam Dodd, Waterloo. He ranked near the top of the Mississippi Valley Conference with 51 solo tackles and 39 assists for the Bulldogs.

Kerstan Panzau, Waterloo. He led the MVC with four interceptions, including three in one game. He also finished with 33 solo tackles and 19 assists.

Owen Suedkamp, Columbia. He registered 46 solo tackles and 48 assists to lead the Eagles defense.

Jason Smith, Dupo. He was a force on defense for the Tigers, registering 43 solo tackles and 27 assists.

Cole Milam, Waterloo. He finished with three quarterback sacks, 27 solo tackles and 31 assists for the Bulldogs this season.

Tyler Wood, Columbia. He registered 23 solo tackles and 22 assists for the Eagles.

Zach Mathews, Columbia. He finished with 36 solo tackles and 26 assists for the Eagles this season.

Brad Lathrop, Waterloo. He was a ball hawk on defense for the ‘Dogs, recording three interceptions this season.

JT Broshears, Columbia. He finished with 35 solo tackles, 18 assists and an interception for the Eagles.

Mike Chartrand, Dupo. He finished with 32 solo tackles and 23 assists on defense for the Tigers.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Greg Long, Columbia. He had a strong season as kicker for the Eagles, connecting on six field goals and adding 42 successful extra points.

Mitchell Gladney, Waterloo. In addition to a solid performer on offense, he posted a strong 38.77 yards per punt average kicking the ball this season, which was good for second in the MVC.

Aaron Laskowski (Waterloo), Nick Iorio (Waterloo), Alex Ball (Dupo), Kenny Fields (Columbia), Vince Gagliardi (Waterloo), Ryan Aycock (Waterloo), Jacob Williams (Dupo), Chris Wagner (Columbia), Dawson Kemp (Dupo), Kory Schaefer (Waterloo).
