Shortly after a devastating fire engulfed old log cabins and destroyed 40 golf carts at Mystic Oak golf course, the Waterloo business began to pick up the remnants and rebuild.

Owner Carl Unverfehrt said all golf carts have been replaced, the siding that the fire melted on two outside walls of the main clubhouse was repaired and window shutters and security cameras were replaced along those same walls.

Mystic Oak will opt not to rebuild the two log cabins destroyed in the fire, as they are no longer needed for storage. The last piece of the puzzle consists of building a pavilion with a green metal roof at the former poolhouse location.

“It depends on the weather,” Unverfehrt said of when construction would begin.

The new pavilion will include picnic tables and serve as a place to hold parties and serve food and drinks. Unverfehrt said the dimensions of this pavilion come out to 60 feet by 64 feet.

Firefighters spent the early morning hours of June 6 dousing the flames, which had blanketed the cabins when they arrived. Columbia assisted Waterloo fire at the scene.

No injuries were sustained and no neighboring houses were affected. The contents of the cabins were declared a total loss since the fire had been burning for some time before being reported.
