The Maeystown, Valmeyer and Prairie du Rocher fire departments responded shortly after 6:30 a.m. Saturday to a fully involved fire to a large detached garage located behind St. John United Church of Christ in Maeystown. Flames were shooting from the structure upon firefighter arrival.

The garage sits about 50 feet away from the home of Greg and Diane Backes. They were awakened by the fire department and told their garage was on fire.

Flames were knocked down quickly and no injuries were reported. Firefighters were working Saturday morning to determine a cause of the fire.
