Former Columbia fire chief, building inspector dies

The Columbia Volunteer Fire Department reported the sudden passing of former longtime fire chief Al Holden, who died Friday at the age of 69 in Reeds Spring, Mo.

Holden served for more than 40 years with the fire department, including more than 15 years as its fire chief. In 2014, Holden retired from the City of Columbia after having served as its building and zoning inspector for more than 20 years.

Visitation is set for 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lawlor Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
