Felony weapons, theft charges in Waterloo

Two were charged with felony firearm offenses following a traffic stop in Waterloo on Wednesday.

Waterloo police said Carmen Medley, 24, of Belleville, and Shandis Barker, 33, of East St. Louis, were each charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Barker was stopped for a traffic violation shortly before 9 p.m. While conducting the stop, an officer noticed what appeared to be a large electronics box stuffed in the trunk and a 50-inch flat screen TV in the back seat.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the electronics items, valued at about $1,200, had just been stolen from the Waterloo Walmart.

During a search of the vehicle, police located a nine millimeter pistol that was hidden in the center console area.

Medley was also charged with felony retail theft in connection with the incident.
