The Prairie du Rocher La Guiannee Societe invites the public to attend the Twelfth Night Ball this Saturday, Jan. 4.
The annual event takes place at the Prairie du Rocher American Legion, 509 Henry Street.
Attendees may dress in historic colonial clothing or in more modern attire.
At the ball, a tradition handed down from the earliest settlers of Prairie du Rocher, a piece of cake is offered to all gentlemen in attendance.
The cake has four beans hidden inside; the first to find a bean becomes King of the Ball. The remaining beans define the court. The lucky men then choose their ladies.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with music taking place from 8 p.m. to midnight.
There will be waltzes, schottisches, polkas, reels and square dances, with the caller giving brief instructions before each dance.
Cost of admission is $10 per person or $30 per family.
