In a local traditional French New Year’s Eve celebration dating back to 1722, the La Guiannée singers will visit houses and the Fort de Chartres State Historic Site in the town of Prairie du Rocher and sing for its residents and visitors. As part of the tradition, the residents provide refreshments for the singers at each stop. This annual event is cosponsored by Fort de Chartres, Les Amis du Fort de Chartres, and the Prairie du Rocher La Guiannée Society. The event is free and open to the general public. Visitors are invited to the following venues for this annual continuation of the village’s 300+ year old tradition: St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Prairie Du Rocher, The Creole House, Lisa’s Market Street Grille, Rocher Pub, Prairie du Rocher American Legion, & Fort de Chartres State Historic Site (7-9 p.m.-estimated).
