Burglary to locked shed in Columbia

The Columbia Police Department is investigating a burglary to a locked shed in the 200 block of Micah’s Way over the weekend.

Officers responded to the home sometime after 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The burglary is believed to have occurred between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Friday, police said. The lock to the backyard shed was broken to gain access and a number of tools were stolen. An Illinois State Police crime scene investigator responded and processed the scene for evidence.

“We believe the suspect(s) might have parked on Skyline Drive and walked through a wooded area,” Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards said. “We are asking the public to please contact the Columbia Police Department (281-5151) if they were in that area during that time and observed anything that might be helpful to this investigation.”

Officers did conduct a neighborhood canvass that revealed some helpful information, Edwards said Monday, and police are following up on them now.

“However, we are still looking for additional leads to follow,” he said.
