Burglary reported in Columbia

Columbia police are investigating a residential burglary in the 300 block of West Liberty Street. The call came in around 7 p.m. Wednesday. An officer on scene reported that a door had been kicked in at the home and a large flat-screen TV was missing along with other items.

A suspect forced their way through a side door and made entry into the house, Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards said.

“There was nobody home at the time. The homeowner reported the crime to us after arriving home from work,” Edwards said.

Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services processed the scene for evidence.

“We have no leads at this time and ask that if anybody was in that neighborhood on Oct. 15 and noticed anything suspicious that they please call our detectives,” Edwards said.

The number to call at the police department is 618-281-5151.
