The Waterloo softball team improved to 35-1 and extended its magical season with a 7-1 victory Wednesday over Mater Dei in the Class 3A Mascoutah Sectional.

The Bulldogs scored six runs in the sixth inning to put the game away after the two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 for much of the way. Erica Schaab and Kylie Albrecht homered for Waterloo, who will face Highland in the sectional final at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The orange-and-black Bulldogs previously defeated their red-and-black conference counterparts 6-2 on April 27 and 4-0 on May 13.

Albrecht went 3-for-4 in Wednesday’s win; Miranda Brown was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Kasey Bradley had another outstanding outing in the pitcher’s circle for Waterloo, recording seven strikeouts while allowing just five hits in the complete game victory.
