The Fountain Water District, which serves rural Monroe County homes, reported a water line break in its system at about 9 a.m. Thursday. The break occurred on KK Road east of Maeystown Road.

Water service will be restored sometime this afternoon, Fountain Water District official Wendy Hill said, but affected customers will still need to boil their water until further notice.

She estimates that about 500 homes are affected, from the Wartburg area east to Route 3 and west to Maeystown Road and south to Renault.
