A 70-year-old Waterloo woman made a hole in one during ladies league action last Wednesday evening at Mystic Oak Golf Course.

“I was so excited,” Gloria Oggero told the Republic-Times.

Oggero sank her milestone shot on the par three seventh hole at Mystic Oak.

She accomplished the rare feat on her first shot of the night in league play.

“I teed it up and hit it straight, but couldn’t see exactly where it went because there’s a hill,” she explained.

Oggero and others looked around for the ball for awhile before someone finally observed that it was in the cup.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” she said.

This was Oggero’s first hole in one. She has participated in the Mystic Oak league for three years.

What made the moment extra special for Oggero was that she was wearing one of her late husband’s favorite golf shirts.

Joe Oggero, an avid golfer, died four years ago. Gloria said Joe came very close to sinking a hole in one many times but never accomplished the feat.

“I was getting ready and came across one of his shirts and decided to wear it that night,” Gloria said. “He was the first person I thought of when I made the shot.”
