WPD investigating vehicle break-ins

Waterloo police are investigating a number of unlawful vehicle entries reported over the weekend in the Vandebrook and Sunset Acres areas of town.

Unlocked vehicles were entered on Cody Drive, Summerfield Drive, Shamrock Drive and Stonefield Drive off Vandebrook Drive in the southern part of Waterloo between Friday and Sunday.

“We have had over 20 vehicle burglaries in the Vandebrook and Sunset Acres areas of unlocked vehicles since Aug. 29,” Waterloo Police Chief Jim Trantham said. “I know we have some people not reporting the thefts, and we really need people to make the report so we know the extent of the problem so it can be addressed.”

Loose change and a purse were among the items stolen, he said.

Trantham also reminded the community to lock their vehicles and keep all property out of site or put valuables in the trunk when parking vehicles outside.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 939-3377.
