William A. “Bill” Smith | Obituary

William A. “Bill” Smith, 86, of Waterloo, died Feb. 8, 2015 in Waterloo.

He was born Oct. 29, 1928 in Harrisonville, son of the late Albert and Vera Smith, nee Rippelmeyer.

He was a member of St. John UCC in Valmeyer, the Valmeyer American Legion, US Marine World War II veteran, retired from Ameren, former Waterloo County Club member, and was an avid sportsman, golfer and baseball fan.

William is survived by his wife, Mathilda “Tillie” Smith, nee Kettler; children Janice (Gary) Wong, James W. Smith, Jill (James) Stephan; grandchildren Katrina (Patrick) Thrower, Rebecca (Robert) Koehn, Constance (Gerardo) Ornelas, Patrick (Michelle) Wong, Jennifer Smith, William (Kristen) Smith, Michael Smith, Matthew (Lauren) smith; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Lucille Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vernon Smith, and sister Darlene Smith.

A memorial visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 20 and 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 21 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.

A memorial service will take place at noon Feb. 21 at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Valmeyer.
