WHS tennis tops Metro-East Lutheran

Brett Ivers’ Waterloo High School girls tennis team took its fourth team win of the season Thursday night against Metro-East Lutheran. The Bulldogs (4-4) topped the Knights (0-7), 9-0.

In singles, Waterloo senior Sam Ellis defeated Metro-East Lutheran’s Gabbie Mitchell, 6-4 and 6-2. Fellow senior Lauren Sendelbeck took her match against Alex Carney, 6-1 and 6-0. Bulldog junior Micki Brinkman topped Lydia Walther of Metro-East Lutheran, 6-1 and 6-1. Dava Lake blanked the Knights’ Annie Keirn, 6-0 and 6-0. Waterloo’s Jessi Molinari defeatead Lydia Fenton, 6-0 and 6-3. Bulldog sophomore Brittany Prange took her match against Hannah Wudtks, 6-1 and 6-0.

In doubles, Ellis and Sendelbeck teamed up against Mitchell and Carney, taking the match 8-3. Waterloo’s Brinkmann and Prange doubles team defeated Keirn and Fenton, 8-1. While Lake and Liz Garner topped Wudtke and Schack, 8-0.

Waterloo’s next match is on Monday at East Alton-Wood River High, followed by Collinsville at home on Tuesday.
