Waterloo girls golf takes second at MVC tourney

The Waterloo High School girls golf team placed second in Wednesday’s Mississippi Valley Conference tournament at Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River.

The team carded an overall score of 391, which was 23 strokes off of Highland. Civic Memorial took third, coming into the clubhouse with a 403. Mascoutah shot a 428 and Triad placed last with a score of 437.

Four Waterloo Bulldogs took home medals. Freshman Haley Faus took fifth place overall with a 96, while sophomore teammate Kasey Bradley finished in sixth place with a 96 as well. Both Faus and Bradley earned First Team All-Conference honors. Waterloo senior Abbie Whitehead carded a 98 to take ninth place, and Kaitlyn Storm shot a 101 on the day, placing 11th. Whitehead and Storm were honored with Second Team All-Conference honors.

Up next for Waterloo is the IHSA State Regional Golf Tournament at Greenview Golf Course in Centralia on Oct. 3. Also competing in the Centralia regional that day are Centralia, DuQuoin, Freeburg, Marissa, Nashville, New Athens, Okawville, Pinckneyville, Red Bud, Sparta, Steeleville, Valmeyer, Waltonville and Woodlawn.

Teryn was born and raised in Waterloo, growing up watching local sports and Mon-Clair baseball. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri Journalism School and loves cheering on her Tigers any chance she gets.
