Waterloo, Columbia & Dupo all become playoff eligible

Bringing home wins on the road last night, the Waterloo, Columbia and Dupo High School football team’s have all become playoff eligible.

Waterloo (5-2, 3-1 in the Mississippi Valley Conference) squeezed a win by Civic Memorial (2-5, 1-3) Friday night, not putting themselves on the board until the second quarter. It was the team’s sole touchdown of the last quarter that helped them slip by the Civic Memorial Eagles, 16-15.

The Columbia Eagles (6-1, 5-0 in the Cahokia Conference) rolled over Breese Central (3-4, 3-2), defeating the Cougars big, 49-13. Columbia’s Charles Farris recorded another big night with three touchdowns, 258 yards rushing on 26 carries. Quarterback Logan Santanello punched two in for the Eagles along with Eric Read and Cameren Shewfelt aslo recording touchdowns for Columbia on Friday night.

Meanwhile, Dupo made history on Friday night, qualifying for playoffs for the first time in a number of years for its program. The Tigers (5-2, 3-2) defeated Carlyle (3-4, 2-4) on the road, 20-13. Dupo’s Tyler Barnes ran in the game winning touchdown for the Tigers, while recording two scores on the night and leading the team with 222 yards rushing on 27 carries.
