Volleyball Senior Night Round-up

The Columbia High School volleyball team had no better way to celebrate its senior night on Thursday, than to cap off the regular season at 31-2 overall, 7-1 in the Cahokia Conference. The Eagles defeated Wesclin, 25-13, 25-15 to wrap up the regular season. Columbia will play in the Class 3A Regional Semi-finals on Tuesday in Mascoutah at 6 p.m. The Eagles will play the winner of the Waterloo vs. Mascoutah Regional Quarterfinal game, to be played on Monday night at 6 p.m. in Mascoutah.

Waterloo also had its senior night on Thursday, but fell 25-23, 16-25, 18-25, to a tough 20-9 Collinsville. Waterloo ends its regular season, 13-12 overall, 6-4 in the Mississippi Valley Conference. Senior Lisa Liefer led the Bulldogs in blocks with six solo and three assisted blocks, while fellow senior Bryce Latchem helped lead a strong serve receive against Collinsville with 22 attempts. Fellow classmate, Marissa Modglin led the team with nine points scored, alongside Kelli Kosydor who had 10 kills followed by senior Rockie Kelly’s six.

The Valmeyer Pirates volleyball team rounded out Thursday’s senior nights, with the Pirates topping Lebanon, 25-17, 25-21. Valmeyer closes its regular season out with a 25-9 overall record, 9-1 in the Cahokia Conference. Senior Paige Whipple led the team with 13 kills and three aces, fellow classmate Andi Inman charted 12 kills. The Pirates will play in the Class 1A Marissa Regional Semi-Finals on Tuesday in New Athens at 6 p.m. against Marissa.

In other post-season news…

Gibault will play on Tuesday in the Nashville 2A Regional Semi-Finals in Dupo at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Nashville vs. Wesclin game.

While Red Bud will play in the same regional in Tuesday’s Semi-Finals in Dupo at 7 p.m., against the winner of the Dupo vs. Carlyle game. The Tigers will play on Monday at home in the Regional Quarter-Finals at 7 p.m.
