Valmeyer volleyball splits so far in Marissa/New Athens Tourney

Valmeyer Volleyball 2012The Valmeyer volleyball team is 1-1 in their run so far at the Marissa/New Athens Tournament.

Tuesday, the Pirates were pushed to three games in both of its matches, with coach Jenny Kohnz’s team winning the first contest against Wesclin 21-14, 13-21, 15-7.

Senior middle/outside hitter, Andi Inman, helped lead Valmeyer to victory with seven kills and 19 digs. Fellow senior Paige Whipple, middle hitter, had nine kills and three blocks alongside Brittany Killy, sr., who had eight service points with two aces. Sophomore Miranda Kaufman led the pirates in assists with 17.

Valmeyer then turned around and played a heartbreaker against Pinckneyville on Tuesday, falling 21-18, 19-21, 12-15.

Inman had a monster game with an impressive 13 kills, 20 serve receives and 17 digs. Kaufmann followed suit with 20 assists and 18 digs, with Whipple coming in at seven kills and sophomore Tiffani Brewer put 9 service points and two aces on the books.

Valmeyer will play Steeleville on Thursday in its last match-up of the week long tournament.
