The first Valmeyer High School boys and girls cross country teams are about to start their season under Pirates coach Amber Stewart.

In recent years, Valmeyer has had a only few individuals compete in cross country.

But the Pirates never had enough runners to field a team.

That’s until now.

Stewart credits Emilee  Mosbacher, McKenzie Redohl and Lauren Asselmeier for helping to start the team.

Last fall, the trio had successful seasons running as individuals.

While Stewart has not discussed team goals with her bunch, the Pirates coach wants every runner to do the best they can.

“It’s exciting to see so many runners competing,” Stewart said.

“I think the other teams will be surprised to see we have added so many runners since we are such a small school.”

Stewart hopes with their large turnout, Valmeyer can build on the program.

Valmeyer will have only three seniors on the team including Kyle Feldker, Mosbacher and Hailey Weber.

Feldker and Weber are both new to the sport.

Mosbacher, on the other hand, might be one of the area’s top runners this fall.

“She will be somebody to watch this season,” Stewart said. “She has a lot of natural ability.”

Five of eight Valmeyer’s runners also play on the Pirates’ volleyball team.

The girls team is comprised of Hailey Weber, Emma Wuertz, Emilee Mosbacher, Hannah Weber, Morgan Redhol, McKenzi Redohl, Helen Weber and Daria Wilson

The boys team consists of Eddie Wilson,  Mark Andres, Mathius Hemenway, Jack Fitzwilliam and Kyle Feldker.
