The Republic-Times Team of the Week is the Valmeyer High School boys basketball squad coached by Rick Crossin. The Pirates notched a 63-60 overtime win Monday night in the first round of the Class 1A New Athens Regional, then held off host team New Athens in the regional semifinals on Wednesday night, 48-45. The Pirates built a 17-point lead on New Athens late in the third quarter, then weathered a strong fourth quarter charge by New Athens to seal the victory.

The Pirates (15-13) will face top-seeded Okawville for the regional title on Friday night.

Leading the way in scoring this season for Valmeyer are Ryan Unterseh (13.6 points per game) and Zach Williams (12.3 points per game).
