Representative candidates William Enyart (D-Belleville) and Jason Plummer (R-Fairview Heights), along with Green Party candidate Paula Bradshaw of Carbondale, will participate in a political debate to be held this coming Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the Waterloo High School auditorium.

The debate will be from 7 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Enyart, Plummer and Bradshaw are vying to replace retiring U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-Belleville) in the Nov. 6 election.

Enyart, 62, is a retired general and former commander of the Illinois National Guard. A Columbia resident from 1979 to 1982, Enyart has a law degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law.

Plummer, 30, is an Edwardsville native who is currently vice president for corporate development for his family’s business, R.P. Lumber. He is also an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Bradshaw, 59, a Carbondale nurse, is the Green Party nominee for this seat.

Each candidate will have two minutes to introduce themselves to the audience and outline their campaigns, after which a series of questions covering various topics pertaining to Monroe County and the region will be asked.

Illinois’ 12th Congressional District sits adjacent to the Mississippi River and extends from Alton in the north down to Cairo in the south.

Costello took office in 1988, filling the term of late U.S. Rep. Melvin Price. In October 2011, he announced his retirement from office at the conclusion of this term.
