Theft of 140 frozen turkeys under investigation

Schneider’s Quality Meats, located at 1323 Illinois Route 3 in Waterloo, reported the theft of 140 frozen turkeys (35 cases) from a locked freezer trailer parked on the side of its business sometime early Tuesday morning.

Many of the stolen turkeys, weighing about 10 to 12 pounds each, were to be purchased by local organizations to give to needy families during the holidays, owners of Schneider’s told the Republic-Times.

Praying to God the people that done it took them at least to a food pantry,” Schneider’s posted on its Facebook page. “We will be able to replace the turkeys. I just wish we could replace the people that stole them.”

Two construction trailers at a neighboring business, Fuller Construction, were also burglarized at around the same time. Police reviewed surveillance video from the Fuller lot and observed a man entering the trailers using what appears to be a crowbar shortly after 4 a.m. He was driving a white work van. There was only construction debris in the Fuller trailers.

Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to contact the Waterloo Police Department at 939-3377.
