Taryn Pena

Columbia High School catcher Taryn Pena is this week’s Republic-Times Athlete of the Week.

She was recently selected to the 2015 Illinois Coaches Association Class 3A All-State First Team for her performance on the diamond this spring for the Eagles.

Pena hit .495 with 43 RBIs and 34 runs scored in addition to her outstanding defense and handling of the Eagles pitching staff behind the plate during her senior season.

Corey is the editor of the Republic-Times. He has worked at the newspaper since 2004, and currently resides in Columbia. He is also the principal singer-songwriter and plays guitar in St. Louis area country-rock band The Trophy Mules.
