Ruth C. Goldschmidt | Obituary

Ruth C. Goldschmidt (nee Schoening), 89, of Columbia, died Dec. 9, 2015, in Belleville.

She was born April 2, 1926, in Columbia, daughter of the late George and Mathilda Schoening (nee Kuehner).

She married August O. Goldschmidt of Merrimac on Oct. 26, 1947; he preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Columbia American Legion Ladies’s Auxiliary and the Columbia Historical Society. She was an employee at Weilbacher’s Grocery for many years.

She is survived by her children Ted Goldschmidt, Anita Graber and Thomas Goldschmidt; grandchildren Jace Goldschmidt, Tory (Natalie) Watson, Jacob (Sara) Watson, Victoria (Matt) Rippelmeyer, and Abigail Graber; great-grandchildren Julia Grace Watson, Samantha Rippelmeyer and Alexandra Rippelmeyer; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Annette R. Goldschmidt; brother George B. Schoening; half-brother Edgar Schoening; sons-in-law Greg Graber and Rick Holmes; and nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

A memorial visitation is Dec. 19, from 3 to 5 p.m., at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Columbia.

A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m., at the church.

As expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions to Hoylton Children’s Home.
