R-T All-Local Girls Soccer Team

With three successful programs in the Republic-Times coverage area, there’s certainly no shortage of quality talent when it comes to high school girls soccer. The hard part is trying to include all of Monroe County’s best.

The Republic-Times All-Local Girls Soccer Team is our best attempt at listing the top girls soccer players from this past spring on three squads that won regional titles — Waterloo, Columbia and Gibault.

FIRST TEAM

Waterloo’s Erika Lloyd

Erika Lloyd, Waterloo – This senior midfielder was named to the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association all-state team, and for good reason. Lloyd scored 16 goals and added 13 assists this season for the Bulldogs. She has signed on to play at Southwestern Illinois College.
Abby Hasenstab, Gibault – Also a senior midfielder, Hasenstab notched 10 goals and nine assists this season for the Hawks. She was named Honorable Mention All-Sectional by the IHSSCA. Hasenstab has signed on to play at Colorado School of Mines.
Madelyne Juenger, Columbia – This junior midfielder was among Columbia’s top scoring threats this season, registering seven goals and 10 assists. She’ll be back for more next season.
Blair Wittenbrink, Columbia – A junior forward, Wittenbrink led the Eagles in scoring with 16 goals and six assists this spring. She was named to the IHSSCA All-Sectional Team for her efforts.
Sydney Luedeman, Waterloo – Only a sophomore, Luedeman paired with Lloyd this season to provide plenty of offensive firepower for the Bulldogs. Luedeman ranked among the top St. Louis area scorers with 28 goals and 11 assists. She was also named Honorable Mention All-Sectional by the IHSSCA.

Columbia's Blair Wittenbrink

Carley Olson, Gibault – This senior leader willed her way back from a nagging leg injury this season to help the Hawks in the postseason. She finished with nine goals and two assists this spring, including a hat trick in Gibault’s 3-2 victory over Althoff to win the regional crown. Olson has signed with Wingate University in North Carolina.
Sierra Berg, Waterloo – Stifling defense was the winning formula for the Bulldogs, and Berg was right there in the middle of it. Waterloo allowed only 15 goals as a team all season. Berg, a sophomore, was named to the IHSSCA’s All-Sectional Team.
Dani Maurer, Waterloo – The same words used to describe Berg also apply to sophomore teammate Maurer, who was also named to the IHSSCA’s All-Sectional Team.
Morgan Glaenzer, Columbia – The Eagles also feature a formidable defender in Glaenzer, who is a junior. She helped keep the opposition off the scoreboard. Glaenzer was named Honorable Mention All-Sectional by the IHSSCA.
Sydney Ratz, Waterloo – It would be hard to mention Waterloo’s tenacious defensive unit without including Ratz, who was a senior leader for the Bulldogs.
Alison Riddle, Columbia – This senior goalkeeper shined in the critical moments of games. Riddle posted a 15-5-2 record with 12 shutouts and 93 saves this spring. She was also named Honorable Mention All-Sectional by the IHSCCA.  Riddle has signed to play at Maryville University.

SECOND TEAM

Fae Harrell, Columbia – The future looks bright for the Eagles with this freshman midfielder, who notched five goals and 11 assists.
Maddie O’Neill, Gibault – This senior provided leadership for the Hawks, scoring seven goals and adding four assists.
Abby Phelps, Gibault – A junior, Phelps was instrumental in Gibault’s postseason run. She scored five goals with nine assists this season.
Chloe Graff, Columbia – The Eagles could have a star in the making with this freshman forward. Graff finished with 11 goals (three game-winners) and two assists this season, including six scores in the postseason.
Alexis Wheeler, Waterloo – This junior scored six goals and dished out four assists this spring for the Bulldogs and appears primed for an even better senior campaign.
Taylor Parks, Columbia – The youth movement continues on this list, as Parks is only a sophomore. She scored six goals and added two assists for the Eagles.
Caralyn Papenberg, Gibault – This junior defender always seems to be in the right place at the right time. She scored four goals and added an assist for the Hawks.
Mollie Zeisset, Waterloo – A junior defender with a knack for scoring, Zeisset finished with nine goals and 11 assists for the Bulldogs.
Sydney Bockhorn, Waterloo – This sophomore defender keeps the pressure on opposing offenses. She also scored seven goals with three assists this season.
Allison Murphy, Columbia – A senior leader for the Eagles, Murphy provided strong defense while also scoring a goal and assisting on two others.
Bailey Bosler, Waterloo – This sophomore goalkeeper turned in an amazing spring, posting a record of 17-2-3 with 40 saves for the Bulldogs.
