Piazza resigns from Columbia City Council

By on September 5, 2012 at 1:48 pm

Columbia Ward 4 Alderman John W. Piazza announced his resignation during Tuesday’s meeting of the Columbia City Council.

He cited an upcoming relocation to Richmond, Va., as part of his career as the reason for the sudden resignation.

Piazza’s resignation from the city council takes effect immediately. Columbia Mayor Kevin Hutchinson said there is no timetable for a replacement to be appointed.

Whoever is appointed to fill Piazza’s vacant seat on the Columbia City Council must serve the remainder of this term, which expires April 30, 2015.

Piazza defeated incumbent Ward 4 Alderman Candace Hejna for a seat on the city council during the April 2011 election, joining fellow new alderman Jeff Huch, Steven Reis, and T.J. Mathews.

A Cahokia native, Piazza and his wife of 23 years, Ann, have three children.
