A high school steeped in soccer success unveiled plans this week to build a new turf soccer complex on its Waterloo campus.

The Gibault Catholic High School boys and girls soccer programs currently play home matches at Oerter Field in Columbia.

“Our goal is to provide an outstanding facility for our soccer programs and to bring soccer back to our campus,” Gibault Director of Development Sev Kovarik said.

Gibault’s 50th anniversary celebration sparked discussion of this new, state-of-the-art complex — a turf field with lighting, bleachers, scoreboard and  a concession area.

There are several donation opportunities available, Kovarik said, from naming the field to sponsorships on the scoreboard and around the field, to commemorative bricks with family names.

“We are asking alumni, especially those who have played Gibault soccer, to consider donating bricks – similar to what we see outside Busch Stadium,” Kovarik said. “The design is to get enough bricks to spell out HAWKS.”

Corporate sponsorships for advertising and field naming rights are also available. Interested sponsors should contact Russ Hart or Sev Kovarik at 939-3883 for details.
