Man airlifted in Route 3 crash near Red Bud

Route 3 Crash Red BudRed Bud Fire Department personnel were assisted by Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputies, the Illinois State Police, and emergency responders at the scene of a crash involving a car and truck on Route 3 just north of Schreder Lane sometime before noon on Wednesday.

According to the ISP accident report, a 1996 Buick Regal driven by Seth T. Harris, 21, of Bethel, Ohio, was traveling northbound on Route 3 when it swerved into the southbound lane, colliding with a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado work truck driven by Eugene A. Nicholas, 51, of High Ridge, Mo.

Firemen removed the driver’s side door of the Buick to safely extricate Harris from his car. Harris was transported by ARCH Air Medical Services helicopter to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for treatment of injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Nicholas was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt. Harris was cited for improper lane usage.
