Local banks address security breach at Target

By on December 23, 2013 at 8:51 am

If you shopped at a Target store and used any credit or debit card there between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, your card data may have been stolen. That’s 40 million transactions nationwide, Target said.

First National Bank of Waterloo said it has been made aware of a debit card breach at Target stores and is working to safeguard its customers’ accounts.

“We have identified all FNB customers who used their debit card at a Target store during the affected time frame,” the bank issued in a statement. “Those customers will be notified by letter explaining in detail the actions taken by First National Bank.”

State Bank of Waterloo issued a similar statement to its customers.

“We will take all necessary precautions to protect your account if we believe it has been compromised,” the bank stated in a letter to customers. “This may include blocking your debit card.”

The nearest Target store for this readership area is the location in South St. Louis County, Mo.
