Judith A. Nottmeier

Judith A. Nottmeier, 73 of Staunton, died Jan. 26, 2016, at Community Memorial Hospital, Staunton.

She was born May 26, 1942, in East St. Louis, daughter of the late  Henry G. “Chick” and Viola F. Mentel (nee Gentsch).

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel and was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Judith was born in East St. Louis and grew up in Waterloo.  She graduated from Waterloo High School and then earned an undergraduate degree in education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

She taught at Columbia Elementary School in Columbia until her retirement, at which time she moved to Staunton, where she was a babysitter and also worked at Steinmann Trucking, Hamel, for a short time.

She enjoyed spending time with her dog, Cookie, and going to the movies.

Survivors include her brother Keith L. (LaVerne) Mentel of Osage Beach, Mo.; niece Lisa A. Mentel-Carpenter of Linn Creek, Mo.; nephew Michael K. (Melissa) Mentel of Eldon, Mo.; and great-niece Emma Grace Mentel of Eldon, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held Feb. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo.

A memorial service will follow Feb. 13, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, Pastor Tony Troup officiating.

Interment will follow at Waterloo City Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Dauderman Mortuary, Hamel.
