John Ervin Ostertag

John Ervin Ostertag, 79, of Dupo, lost his 19-month battle with T-cell lymphoma Jan. 27, 2016.

He was born April 6, 1936, son of the late John Ostertag and Elsie Ostertag (nee Mosbacher).

John was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and he will be sorely missed.

He was proud of his military service in the U.S. Army Engineers Division. He founded John’s Auto Repair, which he ran until his retirement. His great passion was fishing and being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ostertag (nee Wilde); children Jeff (Kathy) Ostertag and Shari Ostertag Chappelear; grandchildren Mike, Libby, Kim, Rachael, Sarah, Emily and Lucas; brothers Kenny Ostertag and Darrel (Betty) Ostertag; niece Janice (Ken) Korsmeyer; and nephew Darrell Alan (Amber) Ostertag.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Vernon Ostertag.

A private burial was held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.
