Joe Doyle Riley | Obituary

Joe Doyle Riley, 82, of Dupo died Oct. 30, 2014, after a year-long battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 4, 1932, in Matthews, Mo., son of the late William Herbert and Pearl Riley, nee DeWitt.

Joe worked for Phillips Pipeline.  He retired as Chief Chemist after 33 years of service.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbia.  Joe was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, and was a softball pitcher for Phillips.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Herbert and Pearl, nee DeWitt, Riley; three brothers, Elvis, Olen (Lillian), and Frederick; two sisters, Pearlie Lounell (Raymond) Myrick and Myrtle (Harold) Rose; and a son-in-law, Daniel Schreckenberg.

His wife of 62 years, Barbara L. Riley, nee Foy, died just a few weeks after him.

Surviving are his children, Joe Alan (Linda) Riley of Ruston, La., Rodger (Brenda) Riley of Swansea, Gene (Penny) Riley of Jefferson City, Mo. and Donna Riley of O’Fallon, Mo.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation took place Nov. 2 at Braun Family Funeral Home in Columbia and Nov. 3 at First Baptist Church in Columbia.

Interment took place at Holy Family/St. Joseph Cemetery in Dupo.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the church.
