Jerry Engbring

Jerome Charles Engbring, 91, of Valmeyer, died April 9, 2015, in St. Louis.

He was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Milwaukee, Wisc., son of the late Henry and Hattie Engbring (nee Krueger).

He was married to Lucy Engbring (nee Martino) for 67 years.

Mr. Engbring was a military veteran who served as a Navy fighter pilot in the Pacific Theater during World War II and an Air Force air traffic controller for the next 18 years. After retiring from the military, he moved with his family to Valmeyer in 1967, and worked as a cartographer for the Defense Mapping Agency in St. Louis.

He was a member of American Legion Post 901 of Valmeyer and the Maeystown Sportsman Club.

Survivors include is wife; daughter-in-law Gina Engbring (nee Barringer); children John (Teri) Engbring, Tim Engbring, Jeff (Rita) Engbring, Paul (Grace) Engbring, Miguel Engbring, Mary (Jim) Estep, Tom (Katherine) Engbring, Susan Engbring, Jim (Mike) Engbring, and Charlie (Laurie) Engbring; grandchildren Katie (Brian) Carlson, Laurel Engbring, Gretchen Engbring, Erica (Neil) Parrin, Jered (Liz) Engbring, Matt Engbring, Sam Engbring, Renny Engbring, Scout Engbring, Bear Engbring, Carmen (Eli) Klinkhardt, Luke Engbring, Hunter Engbring and Macie Engbring; and great-grandchildren Zia Edwards, Nora Carlson, Jake Pigg, Cruz Engbring, Wyatt Engbring, Willow Klinkhardt and Ryder Klinkhardt; along with nieces, nephews and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son Pat Engbring, son Peter Engbring, daughter-in-law Kathi Engbring (nee Hesterberg), son-in-law Lawrence Kappel, granddaughter Sara Engbring Edwards, and all seven of his siblings.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering to celebrate his life on Sunday, April 12, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Valmeyer American Legion.
