The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that road construction began Tuesday on I-255 from Route 15 to Route 157 in both the northbound and southbound directions near Cahokia, weather permitting.

This work is required to repair the bridge over Church Street, IDOT said. I-255 will be reduced to two lanes in both directions until Sept. 1.

Periodically, two of three lanes will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in both directions.
