House fire on Kaskaskia

By on August 22, 2012 at 6:36 pm

The Waterloo Fire Department responded to a small house fire that was quickly contained at 5109 Kaskaskia Road near Burksville around 2:40 p.m. last Tuesday. The home, owned by Richard Jr. and Susie Michels, is a replacement following a fire that destroyed their prior home at that same location early last year.

Waterloo Fire Chief Mark Yeager said the fire started in a closet next to the master bedroom. A cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“It’s pretty strange, actually,” Yeager said. “There’s nothing electric there, no outlets.”

The home suffered mostly smoke damage, with no injuries reported.
