Highland High School alumni, Jake Odorizzi, made his first Major League baseball start on Sunday for the Kansas City Royals.

The 2008 first round draft pick, selected by the Brewers and then later traded to the Kansas City Royals in the 2010 Zack Greinke trade, pitched five shutout innings against the Cleveland Indians before giving up three runs in the sixth.

The game was not televised, but the 22 year-old gave the fans at Kauffman Stadium something to cheer about on Sunday in an impressive first start for the right hander, despite KC’s 15-4 loss. According to the Kansas City Royals website, Odorizzi received a standing ovation from the crowd when he left the mound in the sixth inning pitching change.
