Gladys M. Riebeling | Obituary
Gladys Marie Riebeling (nee Thompson), 89, of Columbia, died Aug. 9, 2015, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville.
She was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., daughter of the late DeWitt B. and Rachel Thompson (nee McManus).
She married the late Ervin C. Riebeling, Sr. on Feb. 21, 1948, in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1990.
Gladys was a past member of Zoar United Church of Christ, New Hanover, and the Monroe County Farm Bureau.
Many will remember her taking care of Shaw’s Lake near Columbia for many years.
Her family will never forget her heart filled generosity.
Survivors include her children Ervin C. Riebeling, Jr. of Columbia, Carol Riebeling of Columbia, Vernon (Dora) Riebeling of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Kathy (Mark) Butler of Columbia, Glenn Riebeling of Columbia, Lisa (Curt) Newton of Columbia, Theresa (Kenneth) Cordevant of Dupo, and Pat (David) Kennedy of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Leon Thompson of southern Missouri; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters Ruby Berkhardt, Orville Thompson, Lloyd Thompson, Troy Thompson, Louie Thompson and Helen Sellers.
Visitation is Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, Pastor R.J. Morgan officiating.
Interment will follow at Zoar United Church of Christ Cemetery, New Hanover.
As an expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions to Zoar United Church of Christ, New Hanover; Eugene Schorb Immaculate Conception School Education Fund, Columbia; or Gibault High School Education Fund, Waterloo.
