The Gibault High School soccer team topped Alton Marquette, 2-0 on Saturday, winning the week-long CYC tournament.

Gibault (11-3) faced Alton Marquette (8-3) in Saturday’s championship match, by defeating Clayton 2-1 in the first round of the tournament on Monday, and then topping Fort Zumwalt North 1-0 on Tuesday, winning its pool. On Wednesday, the Hawks rested their starters, and as a result, lost to McCluer North 5-7. But no fear for the Hawks, who had already clenched a spot in the title game by winning pool play outright on Tuesday.

In the championship, Mitch Meyer scored Gibault’s first goal with an assist from Frank Mantia while Andrew Reinholz sealed the deal for the Hawks with an assist from Tommy Francescon. Goalie Austin Gregson had nine saves on the day.

Gibault plays Teoutopolis on Monday, and returns home on Tuesday against Chaminade and Althoff on Thursday.
