After losing to Columbia in last year’s Regional title game and defeating the Eagles two times this season, the Gibault High School soccer team got its revenge on Friday night, marking the third time it has beaten Columbia this year while taking the Regional title back from it’s cross-county foe.

Gibault took control of the first half, with junior Wes Degener getting the only goal of the half. With 18 minutes to go in the last half of the game Gibault gave themselves an insurance goal when Zac Epplin put it in the back of the net for the Hawks. But Columbia gave the Hawks a scare, answering right back with a goal from Matthew Roderick just one minute later putting the score at 2-1. The rest of the game, no one could seem to score on either team’s top-notch goalie and Gibault took the Regional title as time expired in the 2012 Columbia Regional Championship game.
