Gibault Catholic High School’s soccer season will move forward. The Hawks defeated Freeburg, 6-0, to claim their 1A Regional Championship on Friday at Oerter Park.

Ben Mueth got Gibault on the board with 18 minutes and 10 seconds left in the first half. The score remained tight until the second half.

In a span of five minutes during the second half, Dalton Scace recorded a hat trick to give Gibault a solid lead at 4-0. He scored all of his goals between the 23 minute mark and 18 minute mark.

“It felt good,” Scace said. “We controlled the game, then the first one opened the flood gates. It allowed us to get the ball in the back of the net.

At the 16 minute mark, Mueth added his second goal of the game. Freshman Cameron Kincheloe put the icing on the cake, giving Gibault a 6-0 lead with 15 minutes left in the game.

With the win, Gibault now advances to their 1A Sectional, which they will host on Tuesday. If they win that, they move onto the sectional final next Friday. So, with two more wins, the team can make it back to the state tournament.

“A regional championship is a regional championship and that’s always a good thing,” coach Matt Reeb said. “We’ve got to take one step at a time. You’ve got to win a regional first before you can do anything else.”
