The Gibault High School soccer team tied Edwardsville on Wednesday night, 1-1.

The Hawks are now 5-1-1 on the season, and are ranked third among area small schools according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website. Columbia is ranked fifth.

Gibault’s Mitch Meyer scored the Hawks’ only goal Wednesday night, putting him tied with Columbia’s Matthew Roderick, the Republic-Times Athlete of the Week this week, in overall points and seven goals. Fellow junior Frank Mantia had the assist on Meyer’s goal. Mantia is leading the St. Louis area in assists with seven.

Goalie Austin Gregson is also faring well in the region. He had four saves against Edwardsville, bumping his season total to 38 and putting him at 12th in the area. Gregson is also a part of Gibault’s strong junior class that seems to be leading the way for the Hawks.

Gibault will play its next game at Quincy Notre Dame on Saturday, followed by a home match against Vianney on Monday and at Columbia on Tuesday.
