This week’s Republic-Times Team of the Week is the Gibault girls soccer team coached by Matt Reeb. The Hawks won all three of its games in the Metro Cup last week to capture the tourney title in their bracket. Gibault defeated Centralia, 10-0, Mascoutah, 5-1, and Freeburg, 3-1. The leading scorers for the Hawks in the early going are Carley Olson (five goals), Maddie O’Neill (four goals) and Abby Hasenstab (three goals).

The Hawks battle cross-town rival Waterloo this Saturday at 11:15 a.m. on the WHS turf field.
