Gibault & Columbia win Regional semi-final games

The Gibault and Columbia High School soccer teams had a successful Tuesday evening at the Class 1A Columbia Regional at Oerter Park.

Gibault played first and blanked Massac County 7-nil, putting the Hawks at 14-4-3 on the season. Gibault’s Frank Mantia had three assists and one goal on the night. Six other Hawks had goals on Tuesday night as well. Goalie Austin Gregson had three saves on the night.

Columbia followed Gibault’s game, winning its match-up against Anna-Jonesboro 3-2. Columbia took the lead going into the half with a breakaway goal by Kyle Gudeman, putting the Eagles up 2-0.

Columbia and Gibault will face-off in the Regional finals on Friday at 6 p.m. The Hawks have defeated the Eagles in the teams’ two meetings this season, with Gibault outscoring Columbia 8-2.
