Future of Bud Light Brigade in doubt?

As reported last month, Grey Eagle Distributors, the Anheuser-Busch wholesaler for St. Louis County, announced it has agreed to purchase Illinois Distribution Company, an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler based in Belleville.

The Bud Light Brigade performs during the Fall Church Picnic in Valmeyer in September.

The agreement, still subject to approval by A-B, allows Grey Eagle to acquire Illinois Distributing’s assets and sales territory, which includes most of St. Clair and Monroe counties as well as Collinsville and Granite City. In 2006, Koerber Distributing was purchased by Illinois Distributing.

As for what this impending deal means for the future of the popular local instrumental group known as the Bud Light Brigade remains to be seen.

“It’s too early to tell at this point,” band member Dennis Knobloch told the Republic-Times recently. “From what I understand, the current owners and prospective owners are presently working on business details. Some of the ‘fluff’ — like our group — has not yet been discussed.”

Knobloch added that the group “anxiously awaits” its chance to meet with the new owners soon, with the hope it can continue its 28-year tradition of entertainment.
