Monroe County Genealogical Society Meeting

Waterloo American Legion member Ron Hagenow will present a free program titled “From the Archives of the  American Legion Post” during a meeting hosted by the Monroe County Genealogical Society at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, at Morrison Talbott Library in Waterloo.

Hagenow will present archival documents and objects of the American Legion post and its history, including: 

• A reproduction of the act of Congress from September 1919 when the American Legion was founded.

• Memorabilia from the 50th anniversary of the post with the guest book and several pictures.                    

• A book which contains the first several years’ worth of meetings, starting in 1921.

• A book which contains the first several years’ worth of financial transactions, starting in 1921. Dues were $3.25 and they are now $35.

• A list of every Post Commander from 1921 to present.  (plenty of old Waterloo family names)

• The original list of every man who joined World War I from Monroe County. 

• The post’s original charter from 1921.
