Elizabeth L. Jones

Elizabeth L. Jones, 79, of Decatur, died Jan. 12, 2016, at home, surrounded by loved ones.

Liz was raised in Waterloo by her mother, Edna Goeddel (nee Gleiber) and her father, Elmer Goeddel.

She was a graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and taught elementary school for five years.

She married Dale K. Jones of Carbondale on June 20, 1959 in Waterloo; he survives her.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by two daughters, Sheri (Shawn) McManus of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Shelli (Tom) Braun of Sturtevant, Wisc.; one son, Steve (Kathleen) Jones of Herrin; four grandchildren, Ryan (Rachael) McManus and Alex McManus, Michael Jones and Mary Jones; one sister, Carolyn (John) Surmeier, one brother, Robert (Diane) Goeddel; and one brother-in-law, Dean (Carol) Jones; and nine nieces and nephews.

One of her many accomplishments was supporting her husband through his medical school years while beginning a family. Liz’s greatest joy was caring for her family. She extended this caring spirit to serving her church in the capacity of deacon, elder and many other committees at church.

She was also involved in community activities which include, but are not limited to, involvement in PEO BC Chapter, serving as president; Medical Alliance; Good Samaritan Inn; volunteering at the Health Department; and Symphony Guild, serving one year as chairman of the Symphony Ball.

A memorial service celebrating Liz’s life will be Jan. 23, at 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, Decatur, conducted by the Reverends John Kay and Miley Palmer.

The family will greet friends and family in the gathering room of the church immediately following the service.

Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Decatur; or Good Samaritan Inn, Decatur.
